Abia APC Rejects Kalu's Otti Endorsement

Published 2 days ago2 minute read

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has openly disowned Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s recent visit to Governor Alex Otti, declaring that the lawmaker acted in his personal capacity and not on behalf of the party.

In a strongly worded statement signed by its Acting Publicity Secretary, Sterling Urakpa, on Tuesday, the party dissociated itself from Kalu’s praise of the Labour Party-led government.

Urakpa also insisted that his visit and accolades contradict the APC’s stance on governance in the state.

“Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s visit to Governor Alex Otti was a personal engagement. It does not reflect the position or endorsement of the Abia State APC,” the statement read. “The party remains firm in its position that the Labour Party government in Abia is fraught with unresolved conflicts of interest, a troubling lack of transparency, and the concealment of project costs and contract details.”

The APC emphasised that its position had been clearly articulated by the State Chairman, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu, at the launch of the Renewed Hope Partners in Bende Local Government Area on May 28, 2025.

Warning against further acts of what it termed “political fraternisation,” the APC said no party member should use the excuse of canvassing support for President Bola Tinubu to curry personal political favour or dilute the party’s principles.

“We will not tolerate a repeat of the 2023 betrayal where party discipline was sacrificed for personal gain,” it stated.

Urakpa further urged party executives at the ward and local government levels—especially in Kalu’s and Senator Chris Adighije’s constituencies—to remain vigilant and defend the party’s integrity.

The acting spokesman reiterated that they have resolved to enforce internal discipline and present a united front capable of reclaiming power in Abia.

“Let it be known that no amount of political posturing or unmerited praise for the Labour Party government will distract us. We are focused on delivering victory in 2027 and aligning Abia State with the APC-led federal government,” he declared.

Urakpa also appealed to the people of Abia to critically assess the current administration’s performance, suggesting that public applause for Governor Otti’s government is misplaced.

“Abians must learn to compare their state’s performance with others. The fanfare surrounding less work achieved with much federal support only highlights what has been lost under the Labour Party government,” he added.

“Abians deserve more than clapping with one hand.”
