Lucknow: Under a scheme to promote entrepreneurship among differently-abled persons, in which up to Rs 20,000 is provided to them for either construction or purchase of shops, govt provided assistance to 1,046 individuals in 2024-25.

The aid includes Rs 15,000 as a loan and Rs 5,000 as a grant for construction, while in the case of the purchase of a shop, Rs 10,000 is given with 75% as a loan and 25% as a grant."The primary aim of the ‘Shop construction/shop operation scheme for rehabilitation of PwDs' is to help persons with disabilities earn their livelihood and lead a life of dignity. The initiative not only offers financial backing to the differently-abled but also instils confidence among them to start independent ventures.

Many beneficiaries who once relied on aid are now successfully running their businesses and inspiring others," said a govt official. In 2024-25, govt allocated Rs 1.06 crore under the scheme, out of which Rs 1.05 crore was utilised to benefit 1,046 individuals. The funds were used to start tea stalls, mobile repair shops, stationery and general stores. "The state govt believes that disability is not a limitation, but a condition that can be overcome with the right support. The ‘Shop construction/operation scheme' has not only offered economic opportunities but also fostered equality and dignity in society," the official said.
