15-Year-Old Student Dies After Getting Pinned by Vehicle in Tragic Campbell School Car Crash
A 15-year-old student died after being pinned by a vehicle following a tragic Campbell Hall school parking lot car crash on Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said the incident occurred shortly before 3:10 p.m., adding that the teenager was walking between two cars that were in the pick-up waiting zone when a Rivian suddenly drove forward and pinned him between the two vehicles. Authorities said the victim and his uninjured father were quickly transferred to a nearby hospital.
The car crash was said to have caused a chain reaction that forced several other vehicles to collide as firefighters had to treat five other victims, two of whom were minors and the other three adults.
Now, detectives are trying to figure out what exactly caused the driver of the Rivian to move forward and strike other vehicles. They are currently considering the collision as an accident and have not made any arrests, according to CBS News.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Brass said she is planning to send a crisis response team to provide emotional support and recovery assistance to the school community that has been affected by the tragic accident.
Campbell Hall School officials added they will make available counselors and chaplains to help anyone who would like someone to speak to about the incident. Video footage of the accident showed a canopy being used to cover the space between two damaged vehicles, where the 15-year-old student was pinned, ABC7 reported.
In a similar incident, two teenagers from Missouri were killed in a car crash after the vehicle they were in collided with a semi-truck. Three teenagers were traveling inside a Mercury Mariner SUV on May 29 when the crash occurred at around 9:30 p.m.
The driver of the SUV, a 17-year-old girl, was later transported to a local hospital and survived with "moderate" injuries. The other two passengers in the car, a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, were later pronounced dead.
A highway patrol report revealed that the semi-truck collided with the SUV while the driver of the latter was in the intersection trying to cross the westbound lanes of the highway. The impact caused the SUV to overturn several times before landing on the right side of the roadway.
One of the first people to respond to the scene of the incident was Travis Trent of the Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District. He said the SUV driver apparently "pulled out in front of the 18-wheeler" and the latter did not see the smaller vehicle, as per People.
