After Liverpool’s 2025-26 Premier League fixture list was announced, check out 10 Opta facts about the club’s record on the opening day.
Arne Slot’s reigning champions will get their title defence under way by hosting AFC Bournemouth in an 8pm BST kick-off at Anfield on Friday August 15.

This is just the second time Liverpool’s opening Premier League match will take place on a Friday, after a 4-1 home win over Norwich City in 2019-20. They went on to lift the title in that campaign.
Mohamed Salah is the club’s leading opening-day scorer in the Premier League era with nine goals. is second with five, while and Sadio Mane each provided four.
If Salah scores in the game against Bournemouth he will become the first player in Premier League history to score 10 goals on matchday one.
The Egyptian also boasts the most assists in Premier League openers for the Reds, with his tally of five clear of Roberto Firmino on three.
Virgil van Dijk has scored twice on the opening day since joining Liverpool in 2018.
